So, I’m an avid antique collector. I tend to just buy from antique stores and whatnot, however, I occasionally shop online, but I’m very cautious since it’s easy to be scammed online.

I was searching on ebay, and I found this piece for sale that is simply irresistible; but, I’m paranoid about buying it. It’s a little over 300 years old, and I find it hard to believe that something of that age is being sold for $35.

I read the seller’s feedback, and all of it was positive, save for three neutrals; and they were only neutral because of late shipment on the seller’s part. All the rest was very positive.

Is there any way I can tell if this truly is an antique, or just a fake, save from buying it and having an expert examine it?

Three pieces - 10″ cut glass bowl with several different patterns on it, an indented pewter wall plaque?, and a figurine of a small boy and girl sitting on a flat bench with the number 15 or 16 and something that looks like a 2 or a swirled L, the children have winter clothing on, parts of the figurine are glazed and some look like unglazed clay. A unique figurine.

I have lots of STUFF I need to get rid of. LOTS of china cups and saucers, glassware, a collection of OLD TIN BOXES (tobacco, coffee tins) old perfume bottles, minature ceramic hinged boxes, old blank prestamped postage postcards,(1 cent 3,cent etc.) stamp collection, old milk bottles, old keys, old medicine bottles and tins, old scales, collection of old glass doorknobs, etc. etc. STUFF like that! My Husbands LATE wife collected everything! I have no interest in that, AND have no desire to keep or dust these items., and have neither the time or $ to determine whats valuable and whats not! I’m sure SOME is of it is, and some is PROBABLY just junk! BUT I don’t know how to tell the difference. I’ve tried going on line, checking out e-bay, buying antique books, it’s all too confusing! I need Someone KNOWLEDGEABLE about these things to come to my house,,sort it,document it, take it away, price it, and SELL it! W/O taking advantage of my ignorance and ripping me off. CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME?

A mama pheasant or grouse with her young. It’s a snow scene, dated 1941, though we don’t know if that’s origin or purchase date.

I’m redecorating my apartment and am shopping for new (new to me anyways) furniture.

At an antiques shop how do I haggle?
How much lower than the listed price should I go?
How do I make myself sound assertive and confident?
I’ll be shopping at Asian Antique stores (where they usually get the items directly from China). So going to an auction is out of the question.

I’m redecorating my bedroom. I want an antique, worn, dirty, used oriently rug. I’m also looking for a very old map to put on my wall (like an authentic 100-year old kind). Any advice were I can get something like that? THANKS!
